This past weekend we had Havilah's birthday party. It was a lot of fun. She turns five today, but i'm not going to be home all day. I left in a rush this morning and I won't be getting back 'til about 9 when my night class is over.
Yesterday I realized she was under the wrong impression, so I had to sit with her and explain that the party Saturday was her birthday party, and just because her birthday would be Monday, that didn't mean she was going to have another party and presents and everything all over again. She kept her chin up, but I could tell she was really disappointed. She had realized that her party was not on her birthday so she thought she was going to get another.
Then she and Simcha were playing dress-up with the gifts. Michelle had gotten Havilah a big box full of princess costumes and accessories. They had a great time. Simcha smeared lip gloss all over her face. Havilah had on a two-piece dress and with her hands over her bare midriff said it felt funny. So, she pulled the top down to cover her belly, leaving her chest exposed. Michelle and I laughed so hard that Havilah ran to her room and cried. I felt like a complete heel. Sometimes we forget what it's like to be a kid. They don't like to be laughed at any more than we do.
I tried to post some pictures of the party and the dress-up yesterday but I couldn't get the Hello program to work right. I'm using my computer at work at the moment and I have no problems, but the pictures aren't here - they're at home. So i don't know when I'll get to post them.
What an exhausting week. It's not so much physical work, although I've done some of that. It's the weight of the numerous deadlines looming. I'm not just talking about school, either. There's just a LOT going on. I'm not going to make a laundry list. I'm just sayin'.
