Name the Snaars blog competition!!!

I kicked the google ads to the curb. They didn't contribute much to the site other than a little running joke*.

When I started this site, I thought it would be a place to do a little philosophy, and to keep in touch with family and friends. I have found myself reluctant to post anything seriously philosophical, mostly because it takes so much work. Also, there are plenty of good sites and discussion forums out there already.** Most of my family and friends have strictly avoided this blog.***

So the blog has not fulfilled its intended purposes. Nevertheless it has been fruitful. I have had the pleasure of "meeting" and interacting with some insightful and interesting and wonderful people. I have enjoyed taking the time to do a little creative writing, which is good for me.

The time has come for me to re-evaluate this endeavor. I would like to get some feedback because I enjoy writing for an audience.

The feedback I would like is in the following form. I would like everyone to suggest a new title for the blog. Titles should have the word "snaars" in them****. In a few sentences, explain and defend your suggestion. Why should I use your title?

The "winner" will get the satisfaction of seeing the name he or she chose adorning the top left-hand corner of the page whenever s/he visits!

* I'm so sorry, you pitiful simple-minded manic zombie clicking robot consumerist insomniac shop-a-holic. I'm closing up shop. Go get your google ad candy somewhere else! You disgust me.
** And these are generally eclipsed by the huge number of bad ones.
*** My Mom posted once. My wife has posted maybe three times. Arglor has posted, but he has his own blog, which I vist frequently. I think that's been it.
**** In a sense befitting the awe, veneration and sheer wonderment engendered by that name.

The Man in the Glass

Michelle and I live in the house that my grandparents on my father's side lived in before they passed away. The six of us grandkids affectionately called my grandfather 'Grandpop'. The following poem was special to him. He had copies of it framed and hung about the house, and now several members of my family have adopted it as expressing words to live by. The language strikes me as being distinctly of the World War Two era. Grandpop was a veteran of that war and was a prisoner of the Germans in Stalag Luft 1 located in Barth, Germany. As was typical of the men who served at that time, he never spoke of his experiences. We didn't understand that phase of his life while he was with us. During these last few years, more and more has come to light. As that generation dwindles, I and others are becoming ever more appreciative of their contributions, and their sacrifices. This is for Grandpop:

The Man In The Glass.

When you get what you want in your struggles for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to a mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass,
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.

Some people might think you're a straight-shooting chum
And call you a wonderful guy.
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest
For he's with you clear to the end.
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.

Popular Adaptation of "The Guy In The Mirror"

P.S. I apologize for not keeping up with e-mails and blogging. I want all the snaars fans out there to know that if I am slow to respond, don't think I'm ignoring you. (It could be the case that I'm ignoring you, actually, but just don't think that I am, okay? I'll feel better about myself if you continue to have faith that I'm an all-around fantastic and together dude.)

And don't forget to click on some google ads every time you visit, you drooling consumerist automotae!

On the road to financial freedom with Google ads

Time to breathe a sigh of relief, kick back, put my feet up, and and take pleasure in the relaxing, secure feeling of being on the road to financial independance! Soon I'll be able to focus completely on all the things I dream of: spending time with family, taking long vacations, working when I want, doing what I want. I can enjoy exotic foods and fine wines. I can meet dynamic people, enjoy mind-opening conversation. I can catch up on my reading and writing.

I started those ads only about six weeks ago, and already I've earned $6.34. This is the life!

Intelligent design?

This says it all. By Tom Toles. Here is a link: intelligent design cartoon;Posted by Hello

By the way, I noticed that the a-words are now about trains. I can't wait to see what comes up next. I'll have to think of some interesting things to write about, and see how they respond. This could get fun!

Has anyone else noticed that the a-words change in the comment windows? I bet if you're creative with your comments you can get some interesting results. (I guess I'm asking Arglor since no one else reads this. Or if they do, they are very quiet.)

Come on snaars fans! Tell me what you really think about this cartoon!

What have I done? I'm broken, a broken man ...

I know now why those terrible ads came up! I read through the blog ... It's all my fault.

I created a Frankenstein's monster thinking I could control it, but it was all folly, folly.

It was my own post that did it. I wrote about "costumes". I did. It was a post about my kids ... I feel so unclean. What have I done? My poor children!

I repent.

This is actually quite fun. I'm starting to get the hang of it!

Umm ... i didn't mean to sell out THAT much ...

Let me explain a little bit about those Google ads. They're context-sensetive, which means that google's little engine looks at the content of my blog and displays ads it thinks my readership will be interested in. (I could go into the technical details, but you average snaars fans out there don't need to know about all the streaming digital whatnots and hypertext usb protocol port semantics 'n such. Trust me, I know of witherof I speak of. Really.)

So I just looked at my page for the first time since adding the ads and what do I see? Links for 'Adult costumes' and 'funny t-shirts'! Hey, if you want to look at these things that's your business. If your wife or husband or boyfriend or girlfriend thinks you're a total loon, don't come crying to me complaining that I suggested it through my site.

On the other hand, if they think you're a god or goddess in that costume, then I can cash that check from google guilt-free. Be sure to check in through the comments link at the bottom of the post and let me know how all those cotumes are going over.

It's been hours now since I pasted the ads in so I'm sure they've already generated hits that number in the thousands. Seriously, i'm going to go back to google and make some adjustments as soon as possible.

P.S. I'm still a wild man and I don't care what anyone else thinks least of all you guys and everything else I said in the last post still applies and everything, so try not to mess with me at all if you know what's good for you, so if you can at all hold yourself back I'd appreciate it very much please.

Sold out to Da Man!

That's right! I'm going commercial! I've sold out! For the money! I don't care about you anymore! I don't care about the TRUTH! All I care about is what I can get for ME! IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT THEN GO VISIT SOME OTHER BLOG!

I know the zombie masses will continue to frequent this site. They will push the Google ad buttons (in the left sidebar - please click) like rats in an experiment push a little LEVER for some cheesy sandwich crackers! With SALT! Or PEANUT BUTTER! Or maybe CREAM CHEESE FILLING! - which is nicer because they're not so DRY! But you know what? I'm not selling BEVERAGES! I'm selling CLICKS on GOOGLE ADS! So CLICK THEM!!!!!! YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT! TAKE IT IF YOU CAN HANDLE IT!

Don't mess with me, man. I don't care what anyone thinks, least of all you. So don't forget to visit my sponsor.

Thank you.
