retraction re: absolutism/relativism

David (of the relativism v. absolutism about truth controversy) let me know yesterday that he does not have a problem with absolutism after all. The confusstion arose from the misunderstanding of what it is that distinguishes absolutist theories from relativist theories of truth. A theory of truth is absolutist just in case it characterizes truth as being mind-independant. A relativist theory is one in which truth is characterized as being dependant on some point of view-- and for a point-of-view to exist, it must be in a mind. So relativist theories are mind-dependant. David explained that once he understood this distinction, he accepted absolutism.

I made up a new word, "confusstion" ... a synonyn for "confusion" but with a connotation of fussiness or argumentativeness ... I think it fits
